How to make homemade whole wheat bread... it may take a while, but it is worth it!!
Ingredients:
-2 Tbsp active dry yeast
-1 cup warm milk
-2 eggs
-1 cup warm water
-1/3 cup honey
-5 cups of whole wheat flour
-1/4 vegetable shortening
-In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water
-add warm milk, honey, eggs, and 3 cups of flour to the dissolved yeast
-Use an electric mixer and mix for 3 minutes
-Cover and let sit for 30 minutes
-Pour remaining flour onto the dough, slowly.
-knead the dough until your arms hurt so bad you start to shake- and then a little longer (about 15 minutes total)
-While kneading the dough add the shortening in, and yes mix that in with your hands.
-oil a bowl
-place dough in the bowl, fluip the dough so that oil is on both sides
-cover and let it sit until it doubles in size
-beat down
-cover again until it doubles in size
-beat down
-cut dough in half
-cover 10 more minutes
-roll each half into a 14x7 rectangle
-starting at the bottom, roll up tightly
-do this with both
-cover let stand for 10 minutes
-Prehead to 400 degrees
-put the loaves into 2 bread pans, cover with damp cloth, wait 5-10 minutes
-put loaves into the oven
-cook 10 minutes at 400 degrees
-turn oven down to 375 and then let bread bake for 25-30 minutes
For the one on the right. Add a handful of oats and sprinkle with cinnamon when kneading
